Suspension Comes After Revelation of Girlfriend
Senator Tim Scott Suspends 2024 Presidential Campaign Citing lack of support from voters, Scott says he will focus on his work in the Senate
Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina announced on Sunday night that he is suspending his 2024 presidential campaign. Scott made the announcement on Fox News' "Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy," saying that he had listened to the voters and they had told him that "not now, Tim."
Scott, who is the only black Republican in the Senate, launched his presidential campaign in May 2023. He ran on a message of optimism and unity, but he struggled to gain traction in a crowded field that includes former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

In a statement, Scott said that he was "humbled" by the support he received from his supporters, but that he had ultimately decided to suspend his campaign because he did not believe he could win the Republican nomination.
"I have always said that I would run for president if I believed I could win," Scott said. "After listening to the voters, I have concluded that I cannot win the Republican nomination. That is why I am suspending my campaign today."
Scott said that he would continue to focus on his work in the Senate, where he is a member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee. He said that he would also continue to be a voice for "unity and optimism" in the Republican Party.
Scott's decision to suspend his campaign is a blow to the Republican Party, which has been struggling to find a candidate who can unite the base and appeal to independent voters.
"Tim Scott is a talented and respected member of the Republican Party," said Republican strategist Joe Walsh. "His decision to suspend his campaign is a loss for the party."
It is unclear what impact Scott's suspension will have on the 2024 Republican primary. Trump is still the frontrunner, but he is facing increasing challenges from DeSantis and other candidates.
"The Republican primary is still very fluid," said political analyst David Axelrod. "Scott's suspension could have a major impact on the race."
It will be interesting to see how the Republican Party responds to Scott's decision. The party is in need of a candidate who can unite the base and appeal to independent voters. It remains to be seen whether any of the remaining candidates can fill that role.
